About the role
Provide interpreting and transliterating services in a variety of situations to meet the educational and accessibility needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across the campus.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and transliterate in educational settings.
- Adhere to the RID/NAD Code of Ethics and demonstrate knowledge of Deaf culture.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree.
- Experience in interpreting.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by Deaf individuals.
- Knowledge of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)/National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Code of Ethics and Deaf culture.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Provide at least three professional references.
- For degrees earned outside the U.S., include a copy of an education equivalency evaluation conducted by a nationally recognized service.
- Successful completion of a background check and degree verification (if applicable) at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- RID Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience interpreting in a college setting.
- Knowledge of Math, English, and a wide range of college subjects.
Skills Assessment
Candidates will be evaluated based on their educational background and previous interpreting experience. The assessment includes a screening simulation to evaluate receptive and expressive skills, as well as the ability to render messages accurately.
