Temporary Senior Biochemistry Scientist, Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy

About the Role

The Missouri Institute for Defense and Energy (MIDE) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is a fast-growing research institute founded to solve real-world problems by synthesizing physics and engineering principles with a pragmatic, results-driven and collaborative philosophy. The team is growing and we have an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Senior Biochemistry Scientist to temporarily join our team. You would work with us in solving wicked challenges in defense, energy, and health by transitioning fundamental solutions in a collaborative environment with world-class research organizations.

Responsibilities

• Participate on and support the development of semiconductor devices, their packaging, and protection/sustainability schemes as they pertain to the chemical properties of the materials, and their relationship to the electrical, RF, and mechanical properties of the devices.
• Participate and deliver on development and employment of fluorescent probes for cell/subcellular features and functions as they pertain to bio/health markers for RF safety and other emerging areas of research.
• Collaborate on the testing of these technologies within a team setting, capture data and perform verification & validation thereof.
• Generate reports and document findings in support of the ongoing funded work.
• Assist in laboratory organization and upkeep to support the sustainment and growth of the team's lab.

Minimum Qualifications

• Posses or have possessed a U.S. Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strongly Preferred: B.Sc. in chemistry, biochemistry, and/or equivalent biomedical/bioengineering related field
• Strongly Preferred: 3+ years of experience in the field of chemistry, biology, biochemistry, academic research, and/or industry.
• M.Sc. in chemistry, biochemistry, and/or equivalent biomedical/bioengineering related field
• At least one year of experience in government, defense, and or military where comparable knowledge and skillsets can be employed.
• Ability to work in biomedical facility with compliance to protocols and standards from applied research grants and contracts.
• Prior experience working with research in higher education, research, and STEM

Pay

• $36.00 to $37.00 per hour

Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• Temporary position expected to conclude work on and not extend past October 31, 2026

This position is 100% grant/externally funded and contingent on continued funding. Applications are due by August 30, 2026. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is not eligible for University benefits; individuals may choose to participate in the Tax Deferred Annuity Plan (403b).
