About the role
Our Cambridge-based biotechnology client is seeking a hands-on scientist to support biochemical assay execution, compound screening, and recombinant protein production in a collaborative drug discovery environment. This role will partner closely with biology, chemistry, and protein sciences teams to generate high-quality data that supports therapeutic discovery programs.
Responsibilities
- Execute biochemical and biophysical assays, including FP, TR-FRET, AlphaLISA, SPR, DSF, and analytical SEC.
- Perform compound screening, data capture, QC analysis, and assay troubleshooting.
- Support assay development, optimization, reagent qualification, and workflow improvements.
- Express, purify, and characterize recombinant proteins using chromatography-based methods.
- Conduct protein QC using SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, and related analytical techniques.
- Maintain laboratory reagents, equipment, inventory, and documentation.
Requirements
- BS with 6+ years or MS with 2+ years of industry experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Experience with biochemical and/or biophysical assays in a drug discovery setting.
- Hands-on experience with protein purification and characterization techniques.
- Familiarity with high-throughput screening workflows and automated liquid handling is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, data quality, and scientific documentation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with recombinant protein expression in bacterial, mammalian, or insect systems.
- Knowledge of chromatography-based purification methods and assay QC metrics.
- Experience supporting oncology, targeted protein modulation, peptide therapeutics, or related discovery programs.
