About the role

The Temporary Research Technician - Cotton Breeding will be part of the cotton breeding and genetics research team. Duties include making crosses in the field, selfing cotton flowers in the field, harvesting, ginning and acid delinting cotton samples, seed preparation for storage, planting and helping to grow plants in the greenhouse and fields, performing day-to-day activities of greenhouse care and maintenance, assisting postdocs, grad students and research specialists while collecting phenotypic data and tissue samples from the greenhouses and cotton fields, and performing lab-based analyses including DNA isolation.

Responsibilities

  • Making crosses in the field
  • Selfing cotton flowers in the field
  • Harvesting, ginning and acid delinting cotton samples
  • Seed preparation for storage
  • Planting and helping to grow plants in the greenhouse and fields
  • Performing day-to-day activities of greenhouse care and maintenance
  • Aiding postdocs, grad students and research specialists in collecting phenotypic data and tissue samples from the greenhouses and cotton fields
  • Performing lab-based analyses including DNA isolation

Requirements

  • Combination of training and experience required to perform the duties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative research environment
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic data entry tools
  • BS in Plant Sciences, Agriculture, Biology or related field
  • Background in plant care, with experience in general biology and/or agriculture
  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

Minimum experience/education: Combination of training and experience required to perform the duties.

Pay

$16-$18/hr

Schedule

Monday-Friday, between 8am-5pm
