About the Role

Under the general direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and in collaboration with other health care providers, this role is responsible for the triage, assessment, and patient care of illness, injury, and general health concerns for all patients using University Health Services (UHS). Nursing services are provided during regular clinic hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate nursing care through the nursing process.
  • Determine the severity of the patient’s problem based on data collection and patient history, identifying routine, urgent, or emergent needs via telephone or in-person interactions.
  • Deliver nursing care, treatment, medications, and patient care plans as ordered by providers (MD/NP/PA).
  • Accurately communicate and document patient responses to care and changes in condition.
  • Maintain current knowledge in nursing practice, including emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies.
  • Keep precise, problem-oriented health records.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Use Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Adhere to UHS policies and procedures, including care for sexual assault patients (UHS is a designated state SANE site).
  • Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and continuing education programs.
  • Provide patient education on prevention, healthy lifestyle promotion, age-appropriate health concerns, and appropriate use of medical services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet departmental, executive area, and university goals.
  • Understand responsibilities related to Title IV, Clery, and other compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to their success.
  • Adhere to conflict-of-interest policies and maintain professional integrity.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace that values diversity.
  • Handle sensitive or non-public university information with care to prevent unnecessary disclosure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited BSN program and 3 years of progressively responsible general clinical experience or an Associate’s degree from an accredited nursing program and 5 years of clinical experience equivalent to a BSN.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Certified in basic CPR at hire and bi-annually renewed.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a laboratory or healthcare setting and may involve exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and/or use of protective gear.

Schedule

Part-time, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

Hourly rate: $37 – $47 per hour.
