Job Summary
Headquartered in Paterson, NJ, Straight and Narrow is a leading program providing innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are seeking dedicated, caring, and compassionate nurses to join our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.
Job Specific Responsibilities And Functions
- Evaluate and assess medical and psychiatric status and the need for withdrawal management under the supervision of the Medical Director.
- Absorb and implement the clinical opioid withdrawal scale (COWS) and/or the clinical institute withdrawal assessment (CIWA) for alcohol to identify and document signs & symptoms of withdrawal.
- Dispense medication as per physician orders and maintain accurate records, including seeking clarification of unclear or inappropriate orders.
- Maintain and monitor lab results, notifying providers of abnormal and critical results.
- Assist with physical examinations, medical care, and procedures, and client intakes as needed.
- Prepare and maintain emergency equipment, ensuring staff compliance with department policies and procedures.
- Conduct nursing education and wellness groups to clients as needed.
- Complete and review controlled substance counts with oncoming and outgoing staff, ensuring staff compliance with department policy and procedures.
- Increase knowledge of treatment and client issues by attending and participating in staff development in-service sessions.
- Apply critical thinking skills, prioritize care, and adhere to clinical guidelines and best practices.
- Maintain current nursing license and American Heart CPR/First Aid certification.
- Document and give/receive reports at the beginning and end of shift when indicated.
- Communicate relevant patient care information with the treatment team in a timely manner.
- Initiate appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and outside agencies for patient care.
Qualifications
- Experience in the addiction field, mental health, or corrections is preferred, but training will be provided to the right candidate with an enthusiastic desire to learn.
- Caring and compassionate attitude with those who may be struggling with recovery.
- Current and valid registration as a professional nurse in the State of New Jersey and knowledge of professional nursing practices.
