Position duties include consultative, clinical, psychoeducational, crisis and outreach services to the campus community. The temporary counselor may provide clinical supervision for the pre-doctoral training program. This person will provide culturally responsive individual and group psychotherapy to students with varied presenting problems. In addition to having a general expert knowledge of mental health and psychological functioning, the temporary counselor will have extensive experience with and proficiency in addressing issues of culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical functioning, socioeconomic status and other aspects of identity within the context of psychotherapy. This counselor will provide targeted outreach efforts and psychoeducational programming to underrepresented populations at the College. The Counselor will report directly to the Director of Student Counseling Services. General Duties and Responsibilities Perform psychological evaluation, treatment, and consultation as required. Ensure that documentation and productivity meet the standards set by the Student Counseling Services policies and procedures. Participate in the pre-doctoral training program by providing supervision and didactic training to clinical practicum students as needed. Remain current in literature and treatment developments in the mental health field including college mental health, multicultural, LGBTQIA+, and gender focused psychology literature. Participate in on-call rotation for emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life. Collaborate with the Identity-focused Counseling Specialist in ongoing efforts to offer specific expertise regarding identity-related issues to various components of college community, including students, staff, and faculty. Participate in the provision of outreach and prevention efforts to the college community and in particular to the community members from traditionally underrepresented groups. Adhere to the APA ethical codes of conduct Other duties as assigned. Education and Skills Masters (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) or doctoral (Ph.D./ Psy.D) degree in psychology or related field, APA approved program and internship 2-3 years of clinical experience required; experience in college mental health preferred Licensed to practice (or license-eligible) as a clinical provider in the state of Connecticut High integrity needed to handle confidential information High level of professionalism to engage the campus community Knowledge, training and experience in working with diverse clinical populations Demonstrated competence in LGBTQIA+ counseling Demonstrated competence in providing services to racial, ethnic, and cultural minority group members Preferred experience in recovery, assessment and treatment of addictive behaviors (alcohol and other drugs, internet, eating disorders) Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a member of a team Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community Excellent presentation skills and social skills Travel as necessary to meet the requirements of the position Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands Driving Required Yes Salary Range $65/hour Note Connecticut College is committed to fair and competitive compensation.
