Maintain a knowledge of the Student Affairs Departments and academic resources

Provides direct support to students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, delivery, and promotion of Accessibility Services programs and events.
  • Aid in academic coaching of neurodivergent students and alumni participating in the Autism PATH program.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Neurodiversity.
  • Support ongoing data collection and assessment related to programmatic and student learning outcomes.
  • Work directly with students to determine their current skill level/knowledge of navigating the Accessibility Information Management (AIM) system and assistive technology options; determine students' needs (hardware, software, equipment, training); provide appropriate training to students/staff/faculty when needed or determine other resources and solutions.
  • Stay updated on ADA and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Maintain, promote, support, update and develop a plan for targeted expansion of the Assistive Technology catalog, department website, work with the Director to anticipate budgeting needs for AT solutions and other office functions -- errands, communicating information about department and accommodations.
  • Assist in managing the Alternate Format Text accommodation program.
  • Work proactively to promote an awareness and understanding of compliance matters and trends in current and potential accessibility issues and solutions.
  • Aid in the review of student requests for AT and other technology-related requests, accommodations, including needs of students participating in online courses and field placements. This includes training other staff/faculty/field supervisors in AT, Universal Design for Learning when needed and appropriate.
  • Assist in the development, design, and management of content of the Accessibility Services department website using Cascade CMS.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of innovative and creative integrated academic support programs for all students, including those students with disabilities, utilizing available resources for delivery to Rowan students and expanding electronic resources when possible.

Requirements

Must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with assistive technology and accessibility tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Ability to stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders.

Pay

$22 per hour

Schedule

This temporary, part-time position is assigned no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and is not to exceed 944 hours per fiscal year. Work is contracted annually to coincide with the fiscal year and is contingent upon budget appropriations.
