About the role
We are seeking a Lead Wardrobe Technician for a temporary, full-time position. The role involves supporting the Wardrobe Department in running daily operations while collaborating with artists and technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of the Wardrobe management team to manage daily operations
- Assist the Head of Wardrobe with team scheduling and management
- Hold daily shift meetings to communicate work objectives
- Communicate costume maintenance and show notes to the crews
- Oversee laundry and dry-cleaning needs during shifts
- Set up and maintain quality work practices and maintenance techniques
- Identify aging costumes and bring them to the Head of Wardrobe’s attention
- Set up and run show tracks and maintain them as needed
- Participate in track rotation as needed
- Work with technical management to establish and maintain training and backup plans
- Avoidance of unexpected failures of systems, components, or equipment
- Aid in managing the costume inventory and order projections
- Aid in managing the department's expenditure and equipment
- Aid in fittings on active costume pieces when needed
- Promote and develop a team-oriented philosophy emphasizing commitment to excellence in service
- Perform other tasks as requested, such as assisting in PR events and covering additional duties when the Head of Wardrobe is away
- Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance, and evening show performances
- Ensure equipment and supplies are stocked in sufficient quantity to meet ongoing needs
- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
- Participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training
- Contribute to a safe and positive working environment by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies, and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods
- Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support
- Complete all other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- At least three years of previous experience as a professional Costume Technician with working knowledge of costumes, craft, shoes, wigs, and makeup application
- Previous experience leading projects and crew
- Previous experience working with home/commercial sewing machines and specialty machines
- Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of SAP and Photoshop is an asset
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
- Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays (specific shifts not guaranteed)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.
Benefits
The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $44.13 USD/hour, which may vary based on location. There is no relocation assistance provided for this position.
