About the role
This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $18.00-$19.00 hourly. Employment starts April 6, 2026, through October 31, 2026. This announcement remains open until filled.
Responsibilities
- Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at McPhee Reservoir near Dolores, Colorado.
- Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by providing printed material to those visiting the reservoir.
- Work either independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
- Report directly to the boat ramp.
- Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.
- Additional responsibilities include:
- On-the-job training for inspection staff.
- Creating schedules and ensuring all shifts are covered during operational hours.
- Collecting and verifying accurate timekeeping records for payroll purposes.
- Working with supervisor to resolve challenges with staff and customers.
- Recommendation for hiring/firing of employees to the area work lead.
- Maintaining inventory of all required supplies.
- Performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit.
- Providing public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
Requirements
- Reliable transportation and ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning, and late evenings.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment.
- Excellent customer service skills or experience working with the public.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
Qualifications
- At least five business days before the date that any accommodation will be required, you must provide medical documentation regarding functional limitations and type of accommodation needed.
- Successful completion and passing of background screening and/or driving record review may be required for placement in this position.

Pay
$18.00-$19.00 per hour.
