Summary or Purpose
All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintains and clears roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
- Maintains and cleans vehicles and equipment; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
- Loads and unloads aircraft with heavy equipment.
- Must be polite and courteous to the public.
- May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
- Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
- Village travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
- High School graduate or G.E.D./A combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
- One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
- Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.

Qualifications
- This position is NON-Rotational.
- Housing is NOT provided. Therefore, due to extreme weather conditions in the arctic and for your safety, housing accommodations must be located and pre-arranged by the applicant prior to the start of employment. The applicant must pay for housing; it is not provided by the NSB.
- The Borough is currently experiencing a housing shortage. Due to the remote setting, applicants are urged to consider this factor prior to submitting an application.
