About the role

This is a temporary Equipment Operator – Operations position at the Columbia Energy Center in Pardeeville, WI, ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in the power industry. You will perform various tasks around the plant, including work in the turbine, pump room, boiler, environmental, and fuel handling equipment.

Schedule

You will work a 12-hour rotating schedule with day shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and night shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Relief hours may be required for vacation coverage, vacancies, and service needs. The schedule is subject to change based on plant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the turbine, boiler, and coal handling equipment neat, clean, and operating properly.
  • Maintain and purify the station oil supply; keep bearings and equipment well lubricated.
  • Ensure all major and minor auxiliary equipment are operating properly.
  • Operate all ash and slag handling equipment.
  • Perform tests, take readings, and record data.
  • Start up, shut down, and care for all turbine and boiler auxiliaries.
  • Perform maintenance work of ordinary nature when not operating.
  • Perform all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
  • Conduct tasks such as inspecting, adjusting, repacking, and operating equipment; minor maintenance; sweeping and scrubbing floors; wiping pipes and machinery; changing oil; testing and treating boiler water; collecting samples.
  • Operate Air Quality Control Systems, including Lime/Recycle, Powdered Activated Carbon, and Selective Catalytic Reactor systems.
  • Under the direction of a supervisor, conduct switching operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience and/or equivalent industrial experience in an electric generating facility (preferred).
  • Power Plant Assistant experience (preferred).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • General knowledge of high school-level mathematics and science.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements for the job.
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.

Pay

Pay Range: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour.
