Temporary Equipment Operator

About the role

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated professionals to join our team. This role involves performing highway, roadway, and structure maintenance using heavy equipment and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment for snow and ice control/removal
  • Install, repair, and maintain highway signs and guardrails
  • Complete building and ground maintenance duties
  • Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc.
  • Receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision

Requirements

  • Valid North Dakota Class A driver license with airbrakes and a cargo tank endorsement for Temporary Equipment Operator II
  • Valid North Dakota Class B driver license without airbrake restrictions for Temporary Equipment Operator I
  • Two years of relevant experience for Temporary Equipment Operator II
  • No airbrake restrictions for Temporary Equipment Operator I

Qualifications

  • Substitutable military occupational specialties (MOS) reflecting required abilities for this position
  • Related MOS codes include Truck Driver (88M), Horizontal Construction Engineer (12N), and Pavements & Construction (3E2X1)

Benefits

This position requires reporting to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergency events. Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check, driver record check and federal clearinghouse query screening.

Pay

  • NDDOT Temporary Equipment Operator II: $27.11/hour
  • NDDOT Temporary Equipment Operator I: $24.01/hour

Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergency events.
