Temporary Faculty Pool, OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC)
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments in the College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC). About the College
The College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) extends the university into the community through self-supported and state-supported, market-responsive educational programs and services. CCPE provides opportunities for faculty development, curriculum experimentation, and new instructional delivery systems. Offerings may be nontraditional in subject matter, format, mode, location, and time, including Winter and Spring Intersessions, Special Sessions Partner Programs, Open University, Credit and Noncredit Extension, Certificate Programs, and the Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning.
About the Role
The temporary OTIEC instructor pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to begin teaching on short notice.
Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to CSUDH OTIEC processes, including instructor responsibilities, operations, deadlines, and facilities.
- Comply with all CSUDH campus policies and procedures (Faculty Handbook).
- Disclose any activities that may be perceived as a conflict of interest, such as working for other OTIECs.
- Respond to CSUDH OTIEC staff inquiries via email within 24 hours.
- Provide and maintain accurate contact information (address, phone number, and email).
- Maintain an active faculty account to post grades and review enrollment.
- Maintain and update the schedule of courses assigned by CSUDH OTIEC.
- Update course content as needed or determined by CSUDH OTIEC staff.
- Prepare and review course content prior to the commencement of the course.
- Review facility instructions prior to the training day.
- Review the syllabus, CSUDH Emergency Procedures, and attendance policy at the beginning of class.
- Follow the instructor checklist for each course assignment.
- Submit course materials and handouts for printing at least 30 days prior to the course start date.
- Ensure all course documentation is compliant (required signatures, dates, test scores, etc.).
- Submit course documentation and grades within 72 hours of the course end date; off-campus courses require immediate FedEx shipping.
- Provide outstanding customer service.
Qualifications
- Ability to achieve the learning objectives for the respective OTIEC course, including:
- Demonstrated experience teaching subject materials.
- Documented observation and evaluation confirming capability to meet course objectives.
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject material being presented, excluding Outreach trainer courses and 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training Program classes. This includes completing the following every five years:
- Occupational safety and health training course(s) reflecting a minimum of 30 hours (cannot include training where the instructor delivers all or part of the course).
- Maintain current knowledge in teaching adults, including completing the following every five years:
- Training course(s) directly related to teaching adults reflecting a minimum of seven hours (cannot include training where the instructor delivers all or part of the course). Examples include:
- Adult learning techniques
- Curriculum development
- Classroom technology
- Hands-on techniques
- Handling difficult students
- Conducting courses through video conferencing

Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. A conditional offer may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information or if the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
- Applicants must disclose whether they have received a final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years, after meeting minimum qualifications and before an offer of employment is extended.
- Applicants in the final stages of the process must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.
- Considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083.
Pay
- 3 to 6 paying students: $50 per hour
- 7 to 9 paying students: $85 per hour
- 10+ paying students: $100 per hour
