About the Center
The Public Management Center (PMC) is the professional development arm of KU's School of Public Affairs and Administration. The PMC offers professional education and consulting services focused on skills enhancement for leaders, managers, staff, and teams in public agencies. The Center earns and utilizes revenue from professional education programs, consulting services, and conferences. PMC staff are motivated by a deep belief that public service—and skilled public service professionals—are at the heart of a healthy democracy.
About the Role
PMC invites qualified professionals to apply for part-time instructional positions for in-person and online professional development classes and consulting engagements. Positions vary based on the needs of the professional development programs, class participants, clients, and client organizations. Appointment dates will vary depending on the sequence of the professional development program, preparation timeframe, and client needs.
Instruction in professional development programs can range from three days per month once per year to a recurring series of days several times per year. Consulting and custom course engagements generally range from one to three full days of instruction or facilitation.
Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in California, Delaware, Idaho, or Minnesota.
Responsibilities
- Teach a specified number of classes for programs in a specific content area, which may be in-person, hybrid, or fully online.
- Work with instructional design staff to plan class instruction when requested.
- Evaluate student work and provide timely feedback in alignment with program or client learning objectives.
- Provide feedback to students related to the content area outside of the classroom, within program parameters.
- Facilitate class discussions, linking curriculum content delivered by various instructors to defined competencies and learning outcomes.
- Assist with tracking student attendance and engagement within learning environments.
- Design course content and assessment mechanisms within the parameters of program or client objectives when requested.
- Contribute to analysis of student feedback and PMC’s discussions on continuous program improvement.
- Adhere to departmental, college, and university policies.
- Travel to class and client sites as required.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in a related field to the content area, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and five or more years of work experience in the specific area of instruction.
- One year of experience with adult professional development instruction, consulting, facilitation, or conference presentations, as evidenced in application materials.
- Appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Pay
$25 - $35/hourly based on experience.
