Temporary Electronics Specialist I - Grand Junction

About the role

This temporary Electronic Specialist I position is located at our Grand Junction location. The primary responsibilities include locating, mapping, marking, and flagging underground CDOT utilities, including fiberoptics communications and electric power systems. Duties also involve troubleshooting communication, power, and device-specific issues, performing maintenance on various electronic and fiber optics equipment, and repairing devices for power or communications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Access and troubleshoot communication, power, and device-specific issues
• Test and splice fiber under direction of supervisor and/or work lead
• Perform maintenance on components of the ITS asset
• Repair devices for power or communications infrastructure, escalating more difficult repairs
• Trace and review power infrastructure such as pedestals, meters, and transformers
• Troubleshoot and repair electronic, electro-mechanical, and communication devices
• Other job duties as assigned

Requirements

• One year of experience in locating underground utilities including communication and electric wiring safely and accurately
• Experience maintaining, repairing, installing, modifying, calibrating, certifying, or fabricating electronics or fiber optics communications equipment and devices

Qualifications

• A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to one (1) year
• A legible copy of your official or unofficial transcript must be submitted with your application

Benefits

CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.

Pay

$26.15 an hour for this temporary position.

Schedule

Primarily 6:00 am – 4:30 pm work hours, Monday-Thursday. Approximately 90% spent in the field, 10% spent in the office. Travel required during work hours throughout the Grand Junction area. Required to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and variable weather conditions. Required to operate CDOT vehicles.

Conditions of Employment

• A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.

Essential Services Designation

Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare. May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes' driving time in normal weather conditions to be able to respond in a timely manner after being notified to report to work.
