TEMPORARY Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Technician I– Northeast Regional Office

Description of Job

The CWD technician position is responsible for working cooperatively with district wildlife managers, other technicians, biologists, customer service representatives, and hunters to collect samples from hunter-harvested deer, elk, and moose heads so that they can be submitted for CWD testing. The CWD technician position is also responsible for conducting mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, black bear, mountain lion, and bobcat, and will coordinate with law enforcement, as needed. Training will be provided on how to remove tissue samples from deer, elk, and moose for CWD testing, as well as how to perform mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, black bear, mountain lion, and bobcat. The CWD technician position may also transport those samples to our Wildlife Health Lab (WHL) for testing.

Beyond CWD sampling and mandatory inspections, the CWD technician position is also responsible for maintaining, sanitizing, and handling equipment safely as well as cleaning the coolers and working spaces. The CWD technician will also assist with the selling of licenses/park passes and with the registration of vehicles (boats, OHVs, and snowmobiles) as needed. The CWD technician may have opportunities to gain field experience by assisting biologists/researchers with projects or by going on a ride-along with wildlife officers if the technician is available and is interested.

• BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• - Must be 18 years of age or older
• - Must have a current & valid drivers' license or reliable transportation
• - Applicants may be subject to completion of a comprehensive background check
• - Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 50lbs
• - Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week
• - Must be available to work some weekends and holidays
• - Ability to interact positively with the public
• - Ability to work well within a team
• - Previous experience handling money and working with the public preferred
• - Strong interpersonal communication skills preferred
• - Previous experience with Google Workspace preferred
• - Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
• - Preference may be given to applicants with interest and/or experience in hunting and/or fishing.

Uniforms

• UNIFORMS: The office will provide select uniform items. The CWD technician will be responsible for providing dark blue jeans without holes and neutral-colored shoes that they can wear on the job.
• UNIFORMS: The office will provide some uniform items. Employees will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
