TEMPORARY Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Technician – Fort Collins, CO.

About the role

The CWD technician position is responsible for working cooperatively with district wildlife managers, other technicians, biologists, customer service representatives, and hunters to collect samples from hunter-harvested deer, elk, and moose heads so that they can be submitted for CWD testing. The CWD technician position is also responsible for conducting mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, black bear, mountain lion, and bobcat, and will coordinate with law enforcement as needed. Additionally, this position will be recording data, handling money, providing excellent customer service, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples from hunter-harvested deer, elk, and moose heads for CWD testing
• Conduct mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, black bear, mountain lion, and bobcat
• Record data
• Handle money
• Provide excellent customer service
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a current & valid driver’s license or reliable transportation
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 50lbs
• Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week
• Must be available to work some holidays such as Veteran’s Day

Qualifications

• Ability to work well within a team
• Ability to interact positively with the public and staff in various situations
• Previous experience handling money and working with the public preferred
• Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers
• Previous computer experience with MS Office Suite/Google App Suite preferred

Skills

• Knowledge of CWD sampling and mandatory inspection procedures
• Ability to maintain, sanitize, and handle equipment safely
• Ability to clean walk-in cooler and office space
• Ability to assist biologists/researchers with projects or go on ride-alongs with wildlife officers
• Ability to assist front desk staff with selling licenses/park passes and registrations of vehicles (boats, OHVs, and snowmobiles)

Benefits

Uniforms will be provided, but the technician will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.

Pay

Pay rate is $19.00-$20.00 per hour.

Schedule

Employment starts on 08/17/2026 and ends on 11/27/2026 (3 months) or 12/23/2026 (4 months).
