About the role
This position serves as a certified Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination (WID) Trainer and conducts trainings statewide.
Responsibilities
- Set up trainings, create binders for students, accept registrations, secure locations, arrange boats and decontamination units for demonstrations, provide engaging classroom presentations and effective hands-on outdoor demonstration sessions, and all other aspects of training.
- Follow current state procedures, using state issued presentation materials without alterations, at all times.
- Independently or as a team, evaluate the quality of WID Stations, conduct announced quality assurance visits at WID Stations, conduct secret-shopper quality assurance evaluations at WID Stations, conduct customer service quality assurance evaluations.
- Staff educational events and give professional presentations to increase education among a variety of users (e.g. homeowners associations, community action networks, watershed groups, youth events, school groups, anglers, boaters, etc).
- Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities at Colorado reservoirs (e.g. holidays, tournaments, etc), as needed.
- Assist the mechanic with power washer unit maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, repair, transport and storage.
- Provide excellent customer service to members of the public and partner agencies.
- Perform general office work such as data entry, filing, copying, loading and unloading supplies, GIS map mapping or analysis, paying bills, etc.
- Write technical reports, memos and briefing documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience working in the field of ANS or Invasive Species.
- Current (Stage II) Certification in Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination.
- Experience performing boat inspections and decontaminations.
- Previous experience working with GIS.
- Experience working with the public in a customer service related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding public speaking and presentation skills.
- Excellent driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings and evenings.
- Ability to travel and be away from home every week if needed.
- Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education.
Benefits
The position is a temporary one starting at $21.00 per hour and is anticipated to not exceed 9 months.
Skills

- Current and valid Driver's License and good driving record.
- Able to work early mornings, evenings & weekends.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment.
- Successful completion and passing of background screening and/or driving record review may be required for placement in this position.
