About the role

The Summer Program positions are available for those selected by email. Program dates for most Summer Programs are provided below, with specific dates and times confirmed upon hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and presents lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials to students in an appropriate manner.
  • Selects and modifies instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional materials and strategies to meet the needs of all students and engage them in selected standards.
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and supervises students in various school-related settings, monitors equipment usage and care, and assists with self-help skills.
  • Counsels students when academic and adjustment problems arise, confers with parents and students regarding progress or issues, and attends staff/faculty meetings to provide input on instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research, and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • One (1) year experience with Elementary Summer Programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of school organization, goals, and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child's education experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
    • Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.

Benefits

  • Paid leave is not granted during the summer sessions and staff does not receive benefits of the regular school year (i.e. sick leave, business leave, vacation days, etc.).
  • Summer program staff must make a commitment to be present for the ENTIRE program including all in-service days, workdays, and student instructional days.
  • Failure to make this commitment may impact future employment with the Summer programs.
