About the role
The Host Couple position exists to provide attentive and grace-filled hospitality to the guests at Focus on the Family’s Retreat Centers. This role serves as the primary provider of non-therapeutic care and connection between guests and the Retreat Center staff.
Responsibilities
- Present for arrival on Sunday or Wednesday, calling each guest to provide a personal introduction, offering a warm greeting, providing tours, carrying luggage, etc.
- Be in the Hospitality Center each morning by 7:00am to welcome guests, fellowship with them, and lead prayer, continuing to serve and be present throughout breakfast.
- Be present in the Hospitality Center throughout dinner and the evening, engaging with couples and providing a relaxing and inviting environment to allow for more connection with each guest.
- Be present at the close of intensives – praying with the guests and offering encouragement as they depart.
- Greet every person by name and make conversation, pray for and with the guests.
- Ensure common areas are arranged appropriately and items are put away from the night before.
- Respond to any conflicts with guests ensuring that safety is top priority.
- Facilitate and maintain communication throughout the week with the Operations team and therapists to partner in providing an excellent experience for each guest.
- Perform light maintenance and cleaning needs for the week, as needed.
- When temperature is below 40 degrees, start fires in various fireplaces at specified times.
- May perform additional maintenance and cleaning including sweeping, emptying trash, watering plants inside and outside, changing and charging batteries, replenishing supplies, and laundry, as needed.
- When needed, assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Character/Spiritual: Exemplifies Ephesians 5:1-2, pursues the Great Commission, witnesses for Jesus Christ, prays for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents, and may lead in a public prayer.
- Personal Characteristics: Able to easily build rapport with guests, peacemaker, compassionate, decisive, caring, approachable, welcoming, personable, hospitable, teachable, flexible, and has the heart of a servant.
- Knowledge/Experience: High school plus additional courses equivalent to one year of college, 1-3 years of related experience.
- Skills, Abilities and Special Talents/Gifts: Requires highest level of independent judgment and decision-making abilities, willingness to be available at odd hours, effective communication, conflict resolution, discretion, ability to handle unique interpersonal situations, aptitude for handling emergencies.
