About the Role

Astrion is at the forefront of new missile defense technologies, engaged with the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) rigorous engineering efforts to develop and deploy a layered Missile Defense System (MDS). This work helps guarantee the security of the United States, deployed forces, and allies. Join a professional team of highly qualified engineers, analysts, scientists, and technicians supporting the research, development, testing, and evaluation of missile defense systems designed to detect, track, engage, and destroy adversary missiles.

Our MDA analysts and engineers work in modern, well-appointed government facilities at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama—known as “Rocket City” and the hub of missile and space research and development. You will collaborate with missile defense experts, including military personnel, government civilians, and contractors from Astrion and other companies. The team helps the Government manage planning, development, and delivery of state-of-the-art sensors, weapons, communications, and command/control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Directorate for Test (DT) Targets program office with development of missile defense target vehicles.
  • Support the Targets System Engineering team in all aspects of target design, analysis, and test, including requirements development and assessment, modeling and simulation, test analysis, and reporting.
  • Focus on vehicle telemetry design and analysis.
  • Apply knowledge, skills, and experience with missile characteristics (physical, kinematics, signatures) and engineering to support engineering activities and data product development.
  • Configure and operate telemetry data acquisition equipment during test events.
  • Perform vehicle telemetry data decommutation, reduction, conversions, and related tasks.
  • Generate target vehicle visualizations, situational awareness displays, and reports/briefings.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of experts in multiple technical areas to develop analysis and engineering tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance (requires US Citizenship).
  • Ability to work independently and/or lead teams to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, and other programming languages.
  • Experience with telemetry systems, data acquisition, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with version control tools (Git, SVN).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes.
  • Experience in any or all of the following disciplines: Design, CAD, Trajectory, Radar Cross Section (RCS) Signatures, Optical Signatures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
