Telemetry Technician-MS7-Per Diem

About the role

Reports to and is under the general supervision of the Manager and/or Assistant Manager of MS7, the Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms, records pertinent data and reports abnormalities to the medical team.

Responsibilities

• Based on orders placed by physicians and under supervision of registered nurses, monitor cardiac rhythms, record pertinent data, and report abnormalities to the medical team in accordance with established protocols.
• Apply knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and apply them to practice.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with coworkers, patients, and family members.
• Demonstrate support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with Connecticut Children’s standards.
• Understand and follow Connecticut Children's policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a telemetry technician program with proof of certificate or equivalent documentation.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Connecticut Children’s Cardiac Monitor Technician Training within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum 1 year of related job experience working in a telemetry role.
• Basic familiarity with computers, including navigating web-based applications and Microsoft Office.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter.
• CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is preferred at time of hire.

• Ability to learn basic medical terminology, mathematics, and measurements.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English is required.
• Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
• Ability to learn and follow established protocols.
• Ability to learn and demonstrate competency in reading and interpreting cardiac rhythms.
• Ability to demonstrate competency in cardiac telemetry monitoring.

About The Team

MS7 is a very fast-paced medical-surgical floor with 28 beds where our average patient turnaround and length of stay is between 24 hours to 3 days. We specialize in the care of children with complex Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonary, and Urology conditions as well as other general medical ailments. Our team is family-oriented, and we pride ourselves on teamwork, discovery, advocacy, communication, and providing compassionate care. We work closely with a multitude of specialty areas including both the Neonatal and Pediatric intensive care units. We strive to provide patient- and family-centered care that incorporates our families' input to ensure a comprehensive plan of care. Our goal is to build strong, trusting relationships with our patients and families.
