Responsibilities

  • Performs technical and patient care tasks and continuous observation, interpretation, recording, and communication of cardiac rhythms of monitored patients in a variety of age groups to the Registered Nurse and physician.
  • Those hired to work evening and night shift will perform EKGs during absence of Central EKG Telemetry Specialist during break/meal periods or sick leaves not able to be covered by part-time or per-diem Specialists.

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $26.13–$30.43 hourly. Garnet Health System provides this range to comply with New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining compensation, several factors may be considered, such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and staff both orally and in writing.
  • Monitor Tech experience or fluency with Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation.
  • Six months of prior patient care experience; Nursing Assistant, Pre-Nursing or Nursing Student (with completed A&P courses), EMT, or Paramedic preferred.
  • Completion of Garnet Health Telemetry Tech Training and Education Program required if no prior experience (anticipated start date: 9/21/26).

Required Certification/Registration:

  • Successful completion of a course in cardiac arrhythmia interpretation (ECG Fundamentals & Basic Dysrhythmias: Part 1- A&P and ECG) with course completion certificate.
  • Successful test grade required after completion of advanced ECG interpretation class to remain in the telemetry tech position.
  • Current and ongoing BLS certification.
  • EKG competency within 6 months of hire.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, or ventilated facility.
  • No routine exposure to hazards.

Physical Demands:

  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Ability to withstand long periods of sitting, standing, and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • When assigned as runner, walking and standing most of the day; may require bending, reaching, squatting.
  • Reaches for, lifts, and carries light to moderately heavy supplies.
  • Visual acuity and color discrimination required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comprehend conversation.
  • Capable of working assigned hours at varied times during the day or night.
  • Alertness required during all phases of work.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships and work well under pressure.
  • Organizational and synthesizing skills for new information.
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills, and flexibility.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
  • Sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
  • May be subject to irregular hours, including evenings or potentially weekends, to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules.
  • Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Ability to exercise sound technical judgment and communicate effectively.

Schedule

This is an on-site role. Ability to work assigned hours at varied times during the day or night, including evenings or potentially weekends as necessary.
