About the role

Join the Central Monitoring team at Garnet Health Medical Center-Middletown as a Telemetry Tech. You’ll perform technical and patient care tasks, including continuous observation, interpretation, recording, and communication of cardiac rhythms for monitored patients across various age groups to Registered Nurses and physicians.

If hired for evening or night shifts, you’ll also perform EKGs during the absence of the Central EKG Telemetry Specialist (e.g., breaks, meals, or uncovered sick leaves).

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and patient care tasks related to cardiac monitoring.
  • Continuously observe, interpret, record, and communicate cardiac rhythms to clinical staff.
  • Conduct EKGs during evening/night shifts when the Central EKG Telemetry Specialist is unavailable.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff both orally and in writing.
  • Minimum experience: Monitor Tech or fluency in cardiac rhythm interpretation; six months of prior patient care experience preferred (e.g., Nursing Assistant, Pre-Nursing/Nursing Student with completed A&P courses, EMT, or Paramedic).
  • Completion of Garnet Health’s Telemetry Tech Training and Education Program required if no prior experience.
  • Successful completion of a cardiac arrhythmia interpretation course (e.g., ECG Fundamentals & Basic Dysrhythmias: Part 1- A&P) with a course completion certificate.
  • Passing grade on an advanced ECG interpretation test to retain the position.
  • Current and ongoing BLS certification.
  • EKG competency within 6 months of hire.

Physical Requirements

  • Works in a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled facility with no routine exposure to hazards.
  • Must demonstrate full anatomical range of motion to perform tasks.
  • Visual and aural acuity, along with finger and hand dexterity, to operate computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods; may require bending, reaching, or squatting when assigned as a runner.
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs. and carrying light to moderately heavy supplies.
  • Visual acuity and color discrimination required for interpreting cardiac rhythms.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to comprehend conversations.
  • Alertness required during all phases of work; may be subject to irregular hours, including evenings or weekends.

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $26.13–$30.43 per hour. The range reflects compliance with New York State’s Salary Transparency law and does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differentials, or other forms of compensation. Final pay is determined based on factors such as location, specialty, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity.

Schedule
