Location: Rockingham, NC | Position Type: Full-Time, 12-hour rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
About the Role
We are the 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for Richmond County, NC, dedicated to ensuring community safety by providing timely, professional, and accurate emergency and non-emergency dispatch services for law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies.
The Telecommunicator is the critical link between the public and first responders. You’ll answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls, gather information, and dispatch the right public safety resources. Staying calm under pressure and maintaining professional, accurate communication is key.
Responsibilities
- Answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls accurately and efficiently
- Operate CAD systems to log calls, update unit status, and assign resources
- Follow IAED protocols (EMD, EFD, EPD) and provide pre-arrival instructions when needed
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units, coordinating with multiple agencies
- Monitor multiple radio channels and telephone lines
- Maintain professionalism during high-stress or sensitive calls
- Document all calls and actions accurately
- Participate in ongoing training and quality assurance reviews
- Support internal operations, including shift coverage, administrative tasks, and training
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required (some college preferred)
- Previous experience in emergency communications, law enforcement, fire, EMS, or a call center is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Computer proficient, able to multitask under pressure
- Reliable transportation for potential deployment or training
Certifications
Must complete within 180 days:
- IAED ETC, EMD, EFD, and EPD certifications
- CPR/AED (American Heart Association)
