Telecommunications Operator — Anderson Hospital
Responsibilities
- Contacting on-call teams, administrative, medical personnel, surgery, anesthesia, cardiac, emergency/disaster, etc.
- Responding, prioritizing, and navigating all internal and external calls in a prompt, courteous manner, including patient information and transferring to patient rooms.
- Coordinating language and sign language interpretation requests by callers.
- Maintaining pagers, utilizing paging system, two-way radio, and portable phones as needed.
- Contacting On Call Teams/Personnel and documenting according to site specific protocol.
- Monitoring and responding appropriately to alarms, including Security/Panic, Maintenance, Elevator, Weather Radio, Responder 5, and Emergency phone line notifications.
- Responding accordingly to Emergency codes and site specific policies.
- Recording all shift occurrences and fulfilling documentation requirements per site policies/protocol.
- May also organize and update the hospital directory; track employee pager assignments; assist managers in ordering departmental language phones; order all office supplies; attend hospital staff meetings as needed.
- Covering calls for "On Call Teams," documenting calls including name and time of call, tracking and following outcome of each request.
- Notifying appropriate personnel of response status.
- Monitoring and responding to alarms, security systems. Identifying alert situations, emergency/disaster codes, medical gases, severe weather, elevator malfunction, and security systems; notifying appropriate response personnel.
- Determining need for outside operator assistance and connecting all callers as appropriate.
- Responding to, prioritizing, and dispatching all calls forwarded from the information desk during its non-staffed hours.
- Covering all language line requests, documenting calls including location and time of call. Connecting callers with language line personnel.
Requirements
Minimum Education: High School Diploma
Experience preferred but not required
Qualifications
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Prior telecommunications, medical terminology, hospital or medical office experience.
