Telecommunications Engineer
The Communications Engineer role, based in Lincoln, Grantham or Boston, reports to the Telecoms Operations Team Manager (East Midlands). The successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
About the role
You’ll be hands-on, managing your own time to achieve targets set by the business and customers, working on the Telecoms network that primarily supports the control and visibility of the high-voltage electricity network. This role involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of Telecoms & SCADA Networks within the East Midlands region, collaborating with the Network Management Centre (NMC), Design, and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable, resilient, and secure solution.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the installation, operation, and maintenance of Telecoms & SCADA Networks within the designated region.
- Work with contractors and, when necessary, witness acceptance tests.
- Manage your own working time to ensure objectives and projects are completed efficiently.
- Work with colleagues and customers to ensure continuity of service.
- Operate safely and in accordance with agreed approved procedures and techniques.
- Provide technical support to customers and liaise with colleagues to solve complex issues.
- Undertake standby duties in accordance with an agreed rota.
Requirements
- Qualified to BTEC or equivalent in Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering, or extensive relevant experience.
- Experience with DWDM, IP, MPLS, SDH, PDH, and Microwave equipment is ideal.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate jobs while clearly explaining issues.
- Resilient, organized, and able to prioritize workload effectively.
- Experience using iPads, computers, and relevant software.
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Eligibility for National Security Vetting (SC) clearance, typically requiring UK residency for at least 5 years prior to application. Exceptions may apply for those serving overseas with HM forces, studying abroad, or living overseas with parents.
