About the role

Kent is looking for a Telecommunications Commissioning Technician for a Commissioning & Startup project in Port Arthur, TX.

Location: Port Arthur, TX. This is a project-based, contract role requiring travel. Relocation is not provided.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and behavior.
  • Engage with HSSE policies and programs including field level risk assessments, stop work programs and communicating with other workers in the work party or area.
  • Read and understand area layouts, block diagrams, telecommunications system architecture drawings, equipment lists, cable schedules, termination drawings, system descriptions, data sheets, and typical installation details.
  • Perform function checking of field devices back to a host system, such as CCTV, Public Address and alarm speakers, and Access Control card readers.
  • Carry out telecommunication equipment inspections, including cabinet, panel, and end device installation checks as per project requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of function testing and configuration of structured cabling, fiber-based networks, switches, routers, and IP-based network configuration.
  • Install and test telephone systems and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Use and understand a Completions Management System or Database.
  • Understand the commissioning process from mechanical completions to commissioning and start-up.
  • Complete function test check sheets, inspection test records, punch lists, make redlines, and report any deficiencies.
  • Knowledge of microwave communication equipment, antennas, and radio frequency equipment including alignment.
  • Use test equipment, including OTDRs, multimeters, and Ethernet testers.
  • Understand electrical supplies for telecommunications equipment.
  • Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSE and Permit to Work training schedule.
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills and role.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of telecommunications commissioning experience.
  • Trained and familiar with System Completions database including B and C check sheets.
  • Knowledge of best practices and procedures in line with large-scale industrial projects.
  • Fully trained in all safety-related subjects such as Environment Concerns, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, JHA, PTW, MOC.
  • NFPA 70E trained and certified.
  • Prior experience completing Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities as per project procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Basic computer training such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Fully trained in the use of hand tools and operation of test equipment.
  • Observe the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment, and Quality rules of the Company, its clients, and governing authorities.
