Teen Parent Specialist II PM-2 pm to 10 pm - Seton Home

About the Role

Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children. The Teen Parent Specialist is responsible for the overall wellbeing, care, and supervision of adolescent mothers ages 12-18, young adults 18-21 years old, and their children ages 0-5 years old. This role works in a residential setting, applying trauma-informed practices to provide a safe and caring environment. The Specialist teaches life skills and parenting curriculum to clients in a daily home-like environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and implement parenting, educational, independent living skills, and recreational activities during your shift as assigned.
• Build positive relationships with each program participant and foster connections with mothers and their children.
• Effectively manage the group of children assigned to you, maintaining and enforcing agency policies and procedures to uphold youth rights and appropriate discipline.
• Actively engage with participants to foster positive and age-appropriate development.
• Meet deadlines and ensure documentation is complete and accurate in accordance with state licensing, contractors, and funders.
• Conduct yourself professionally as a representative of Seton Home with participants, staff, children, school staff, and others.
• Maintain positive, culturally competent relationships with residents and staff.
• Document client progress and interactions via online database(s).
• Follow reporting and notification protocols for serious incidents.
• Maintain professional boundaries with clients and apply de-escalation and Emergency Behavior Intervention techniques as trained.
• Protect the confidentiality of client information, services rendered, donor details, investigations, and financial information.
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Faith and Moral standards of the organization.
• Take a solution-oriented approach in interactions and promote collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of Seton Home.
• Complete New Employee Orientation and Training as mandated.

Shift-Specific Responsibilities

• Participate in shift transition to obtain updates on residents' well-being and areas of concern.
• Conduct medical cart exchange to verify medications are accounted for and properly logged.
• Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications to clients and their children as needed.
• Ensure residents and their children are informed and prepared for appointments, meetings, or sessions.
• Transport clients as needed.
• Supervise and engage clients unable to attend school or work.
• Teach life skills through daily interactions, including room cleanliness, hygiene, laundry, and healthy eating habits.
• Ensure basic needs of all participants and their children are met.
• Complete room and safety checks to maintain a safe environment.
• Document client progress, interactions, and services provided in the online database.
• Notify shift supervisor of any serious incidents.
• Lead and participate in assigned client activities, documenting participation in resident Activity Logs.
• Process new medications and discard expired or discontinued medication as directed.
• Distribute requested needs such as hygiene products, clothing, and toiletries, documenting accordingly.
• Ensure residents follow the daily schedule, including mealtime, recreation, chores, and laundry.
• Complete transition reports with the oncoming shift.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree preferred in Human Services, Education, Psychology, or related field. Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 6 months experience in human services or child welfare working with children and adolescents.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid vehicle insurance.
• Experience with computer software and online databases.
• Solid grasp of Trauma-Informed Care and experience with pregnant and parenting populations.
• Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently and on a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Maturity, confidence, emotional stability, and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.

Schedule

Work Hours: 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Workdays: Tuesday - Saturday

This is a grant-funded position, and salary is dependent on funding availability. The position may be eliminated at any time due to lack of funding.
