About the Role
As a Technology Technician, you will work under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent. Your main responsibilities will include providing skilled maintenance, installations, additions, and/or repair and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, associated materials, and equipment on any type of project. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Responsibilities
- Lay out work and prepare materials for installation.
- Perform overhead and underground layout and rough-in.
- Terminate all types of copper cable including coaxial, multi-pair, and Category 3 through 6.
- Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install cable tray using measuring devices and hand tools.
- Assemble and install relay racks, network cabinets, wall fields, and associated components.
- Perform fiber optic cable installation and terminations of all types.
- Perform structured cabling installations in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
- Correctly set up and operate copper and fiber optic testing equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and resolve problems in structured cabling systems.
- Operate any power and hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
- Perform other project-related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects, and smooth operation of the department.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of on-the-job communications work experience as well as demonstrated skills at the Technician level.
- High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
- Current Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
- Must be able to pass drug and background check.
Skills
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
- Ability to lift 51 pounds routinely.
- Constant mobility on feet.
- Ability to climb ladders of all types and work at extreme heights.
- Ability to complete full-day assignments involving overhead work.
- Capability to transition from employee parking or street into construction work areas and access all building levels, even if the only means is via OSHA-approved site construction ladders or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
- Capability to secure tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
- Good vision (normal or corrected), including close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color-coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Good hearing (normal or corrected).
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
- Ability to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with minimal interference or disruption while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
Work Environment
The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures and all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold, and snow. This position requires work at extreme heights, in areas under construction, or in restricted areas such as switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, or attics. Work may also occur in confined spaces and on slippery or uneven surfaces, including ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, ditches, and excavations. The role involves working in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.
Schedule
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
- Flexible work hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime to meet project deadlines.
