About the role
Performs repairs, maintenance and inspections of Denver Public School (DPS) vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Performs required annual Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and Colorado Driver’s License inspections on district vehicles and completes necessary paperwork, recording identified defects.
- Inspects Maintenance Tech II vehicle repairs and signs off on CDE forms certifying that vehicle work has been performed according to standards.
- Disassembles vehicles for inspection; performs secondary diagnostics; trouble-shoots cause of defect and determines needed repairs.
- Performs major repairs that directly involve safety to the public.
- Performs maintenance and repair services on district fleet in accordance with quality assurance inspection guidelines, DPS standards, and established work rules and policy.
- Completes required forms and paperwork using FASTER, ensuring completeness, accuracy and proper placement of forms in vehicle.
- Completes daily time reporting and submits to Shop Supervisor.
- Test drives vehicles, and tests components and systems, using diagnostic equipment.
- Tracks time worked on each vehicle by type of repair according to Time on Task standards.
- Operates service truck and makes service calls for district vehicle breakdowns.
- Performs operator pre-trip vehicle inspections by checking condition and availability of safety and emergency equipment in accordance with State of Colorado and Commercial Driver’s License authority.
- Maintains work area by cleaning tables; scrubbing floors; and throwing away or recycling materials.
- Determines work sequences of repairs and maintenance activities, based on work priority, and availability of parts.
- Participates in and supports a team work environment by interacting with other technicians and supervisors, and assisting in the development of new practices and technology.
- Communicates and coordinates fleet maintenance schedule and concerns with shop supervisor.
- Records maintenance activities by utilizing computerized system, ensuring maintenance standards are met.
- Executes contingency plans during inclement weather operations.
- Communicates with vehicle operators during service calls or refers operator to Shop Supervisor.
- Updates, trains other personnel in, and communicates current knowledge of fleet maintenance practices and.
- Works to maintains current CDE Inspector certification, and ASE certifications.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED certificate
- Technical community college graduate in automotive/truck mechanics (1 yr. program)
- Two (2) years vehicle maintenance experience
- Demonstrated - initiative in taking ASE tests (preferably passing)
- A full set of tools
- Four (4) years of vehicle maintenance experience, journeyman level preferred
- ASE certification in school bus/automotive/heavy truck preferred
Qualifications
