Technician-Upton
Responsibilities
- Execute the primary physical requirements of the plant, including the regular loading of raw materials and the manual movement of chemical sacks weighing 60+ lbs.
- Actively participate in ongoing technical training, including radiation safety awareness, hazardous material handling, and equipment-specific certifications.
- Must be highly detail-oriented when pulling samples and recording data. Precision in sampling is critical for the analytical lab to provide accurate feedback on plant performance.
- Assist in the construction and repair of plant piping systems, specifically utilizing CPVC construction and poly pipe fusion techniques.
- Provide hands-on assistance to the Operating Lead; follow directions to adjust manual equipment and support plant control activities.
- Able to learn and assist with plant controls when needed.
- Safely operate site machinery, including telehandlers, man-lifts, and skid steers.
- Adhere to strict safety standards while working with harsh chemicals (acids) and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM), following ALARA principles.
Qualifications
- Strong general knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Practical experience with general piping in a plant setting, including CPVC construction and poly pipe fusion.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy and maintain clean, organized work areas and documentation.
- High common sense and logical thinking skills to troubleshoot issues on the fly and execute tasks efficiently.
- Capable of lifting 60+ lbs regularly and working at elevated heights using ladders or lifts with proper PPE.
About the Role
The Technician serves as the essential labor force for the Upton Demonstration Plant. This role is focused on the physical execution of daily production tasks, material handling, and process sampling. As the "engine" of the site's manual operations, you will work closely with the lead technician to maintain 24/7 process flow. This position requires a "hands-on" mechanical aptitude for plant maintenance and piping construction to ensure the facility remains in peak operational condition.
