About the role
The Shop Technician position at Summit Fire & Security involves receiving materials, storing materials, picking items, moving and transporting items, assisting with walk-in customers, delivering fire extinguishers and cabinets, keeping shop and extinguisher holding areas clean, and performing various other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Perform hydrostatic test or 6-year internal inspections on fire extinguishers.
- Assist with walk-in customers' fire extinguishers.
- Occasionally deliver fire extinguishers and cabinets to customers.
- Help keep shop and extinguisher holding areas clean.
- Frequently moves fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler pipes, and other mechanical devices.
- Identifies and inspects received inventory, verifies labels.
- Transport items via truck, including travel time and location may vary.
- Transport items inside and outside of trucks.
- Cleaning of workstation and surrounding areas in warehouse/shop.
- Aid with inventory audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year Fire Life Safety Industry experience, preferably in the Shop area.
- 1 year of professional computer skills, preferred.
- Inventory control experience, preferred.
- Forklift certification, license, or experience, required.
- Must comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.
- Efficient time management, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Collaborative attitude and ability to work with all levels of employees.
- Strong diligence and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, including reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- Familiarity with analytical use of business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar, preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce preferred.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements

- Physical Requirements: Bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Work Environment: Regularly works outside, exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Works alone and with others. Consistently wears appropriate personal protective equipment.
