Technician, Scientist or Geologist

GEI’s Huntington Station, NY office on Long Island is seeking a Geologist or Environmental Scientist. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field work and office tasks on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Environmental sampling of various media (groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, soil vapor, and air).
  • Implementation of community air monitoring programs (CAMP) and technical oversight of subcontractors.
  • Operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) of groundwater treatment systems for sites on Long Island and within the New York metro area.
  • Remedial construction management.
  • Assistance/support of ecological or offshore wind projects.
  • Interaction with subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agency representatives.
  • Preparation of documentation related to sampling and OM&M reporting.
  • Assistance with the preparation of groundwater monitoring and periodic review reports.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • B.S. or A.S. in Environmental Science or Geology.
  • 0 to 3 years of previous professional experience in environmental consulting.
  • Mechanical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Previous experience with sampling, air monitoring, or groundwater treatment systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Previous experience with technical report writing.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
  • OSHA 30-hr Construction Safety certification.

Pay

Pay range for this position: $52,000.00 – $58,000.00/year.

Physical Requirements

  • Light to medium physical activity level throughout the workday.
  • Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, climbing, lifting (floor to waist level up to 50 lbs), carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling/crawling, and keyboard use.
  • Accurate near and far vision, color discrimination, and depth perception.
  • Accurate hearing and communication skills.
  • Exposure to uneven surfaces, dust/particulate matter, and potential occupational hazards (e.g., chemical, airborne communicable diseases).
  • Usual workday hours: 8 to 10 hours.
