Technician-Polysomnography II

Performs basic polysomnographic testing and associated interventions under the direct supervision of the clinical director or medical director. May verify insurance, enter patient admission information into the system, and provide supervision of other staff. Subject to overtime and callback as required. Reports to the Director of the Sleep Center.

Responsibilities

• Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs and determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
• Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
• Follows procedural protocols and demonstrates the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
• Completes assigned goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Certified Respiratory Therapist, or Registry Eligible in Sleep and must challenge the BRPT Exam upon hire/transfer to remain eligible for the PSG II job classification.
• If the candidate has previous sleep experience and is eligible to take the exam upon hire, they must challenge the next available exam date and pass the exam to remain a PSG II Technician.
• Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state-licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician.
• Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required; BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire.
• Basic computer literacy skills.
