Responsibilities
- Arrives on time and prepared to work on a daily basis with required tools and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Demonstrates an understanding of productivity and readily adapts to team suggestions to maximize accomplishments under time restrictions
- Comfortable working around other trades and helping to create a work environment that is mutually productive
- Maintains a safe and controlled environment while working in and around confined spaces, on the Right of Way, and in various assigned work sites
- Takes the initiative to keep work sites clean and organized throughout the workday
- Reads comprehension and adherence to written scopes of work and supporting documentation including engineered drawings, butterflies and a Bill of Material (BOM)
- Team player that coordinates and communicates activities with other employees, departments, and management
Qualifications
- Knowledge and adherence to best practices for installing fiber optic cables through various forms of conveyance is a must
- Proficient with handling multiple types of enclosures for housing fiber optic cabling in both outside plant and inside plant environments
- A solid understanding of best practices for cabling routing and diversity requirements as well as dressing standards and related materials are also essential
- Proficiency with basic hand tools including, but not limited to, snips, socket sets, screw drivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers and crimpers
- Knowledge of cable installation practices including dressing, lacing, structured cabling implementation and simple network design including redundancy concepts
- Knowledge to operate scissor lifts, cable tuggers, bucket trucks and/or other simple machinery used in OSP installations
- Competency with technical devices and related software or applications to operate laptops, tablets and/or cell phones necessary to support work and communication in the field
- Understanding of basic termination methods for fiber optic cabling including mechanical splices, fusion splicing and related best practices for handling and cleaning various connectors
- Proficiency with basic labeling equipment, labeling best practices and organizational methods to ensure efficient completion and turnover per customer specifications
- Knowledge of various manufacturers and installation practices related to cabling conveyance including conduit, ladder rack, basket tray, fiber guide and innerduct
- Proficiency with common trouble shooting methods, cable testing processes and testing equipment, and validation documentation
- Good work ethic and a willingness to learn
- Pays close attention to detail and makes good, sound decisions based on information given
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
