Technician, Instrument 2/3

About the role

The Instrument Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Instrument Supervisor and is a member of a multi-disciplined crew responsible for all operation and maintenance activities of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and regasification terminal. This is a DOT position requiring dedication, sensitivity to safety issues, and compliance with policies and procedures for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the terminal.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as an LNG terminal Maintenance Instrument Technician in a 4-10 or 7-12 rotational shift environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.
• Maintain instrumentation equipment on pumps, compressors, gas turbines, motors, vessels, utilities, piping, tanks, and unloading arms.
• Maintain the facility with awareness of environmental consequences, striving for high levels of environmental and safety compliance.
• Record maintenance data and inform the Maintenance Instrument Supervisor of potential problems or failures; collaborate to resolve issues and improve plant reliability and safety.
• Perform all duties applying safety protocols and adhering to regulatory mandates.
• Interpret and analyze technical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
• Contribute to team discussions on areas for improvement and optimization.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Understand plant surroundings and identify relevant equipment.
• Understand the physical properties of LNG.
• Possess basic knowledge of safe handling practices, governmental regulations, and related technical and safety codes, standards, and reporting requirements.
• Knowledge of plant rules and guidelines regarding equipment operations and certification requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of plant maintenance protocols and equipment diagnostics.
• Must be qualified in at least one craft skill.

Qualifications

• Education and Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Formal education in a related technical or engineering discipline or related military training/experience is desirable.
• Craft Skills: Must be qualified in maintaining or repairing at least one of the following: Distributed Control System (DCS).
• Experience: Plant maintenance experience in a related industry or military setting is required. Experience with LNG or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids is a plus.
  • Technician 2: 2+ years relevant work experience required.
  • Technician 3: 4+ years relevant work experience required.

Work Conditions

• Often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, smell, type, and write.
• Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladders up to forty feet or more, and lift/move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work indoors and outdoors, exposed to year-round weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Subject to random drug and alcohol testing per applicable federal regulations.
• Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
• All responsibilities must be met in a rotating shift environment, including holidays, weekends, and nights.
• Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
