Technician II - Fiber
About the role
The Technician II - Fiber is responsible for all aspects of Fiber, including but not limited to installing, terminating, testing, and splicing.
Responsibilities
- Cabling & Termination
- Basic copper termination skills
- Install work area outlets, modular furniture, and walls (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks)
- Mount faceplates and surface mount boxes correctly
- Adhere to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards
- Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware)
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required
- Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels)
- Perform testing, continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, use of volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable
- Install, terminate, and breakout various types of fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP)
- Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords
- Terminate and breakout outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g. Corning/Commscope, 3DNX)
- Terminate and breakout indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber
- Install fan-out kits including buffer tube
- Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode & single-mode fiber
- Complete IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, Job Blog, tool transfers, etc.)
- Complete any other duties as assigned
- Testing
- Test using an OTDR, Fluke DTX 180
- Troubleshoot using an OTDR to identify and correct problems network-wide
- Splicing
- Perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable
- Perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable
- Perform building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices
Qualifications
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Self-motivated, positive approach, professional, and able to act as liaison for customer representatives
- Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent, proficient with listed tools, experience in Fiber, industry certifications (Corning/FOA), data center installation experience, mechanical and fusion splice experience, OSP/Confined Space Entry experience (splicing), ability to use trade tools, proficiency in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems, testing & troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems experience (OTDR & PMLS), ability to meet IES driving standards policy, 2-4 years of experience in Fiber

Min USD $22.00/Hr. Max USD $29.00/Hr.
