Technician II - Fiber

Job Summary

The Technician II - Fiber is responsible for all aspects of Fiber, including installation, termination, testing, and splicing.

General Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Cabling & Termination
• Basic copper termination skills
• Install work area outlets, modular furniture, and walls (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks)
• Mount faceplates and surface mount boxes correctly
• Adhere to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards
• Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware)
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required
• Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels)
• Test horizontal and riser cable using volt-ohmmeter
• Identify and correct problems using an OTDR
• Terminate simplex & duplex jumper cord
• Terminate and breakout outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g. Corning/Commscope, 3DNX)
• Terminate and breakout indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber
• Install fan-out kits including buffer tube
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode & single-mode fiber
• Complete IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, Job Blog, tool transfers)
• Complete other duties as assigned
• Testing
• Use OTDR and Fluke DTX 180 to test
• Troubleshoot using OTDR to identify and correct problems network-wide
• Splicing
• Perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable
• Perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable
• Perform building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices

Qualifications

• Physical and Mental Requirements: Self-motivated, positive approach, professional, and able to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces
• Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent, proficient with listed tools, experience in Fiber, industry certifications (Corning/FOA), data center installation experience, mechanical and fusion splice experience, OSP/Confined Space Entry experience (splicing), able to use trade tools, able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, hear and recognize audible signals, able to travel within territory

Min USD $28.00/Hr. Max USD $32.00/Hr.
