Technician II-1

This position performs routine and some non-routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (buses, vans, etc.) to FirstGroup standards. Work is performed under minimal supervision, handling advanced issues and problems while mentoring or providing informal guidance to Technician I. In Washington, this is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing, including cannabis.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs with moderate supervision, including replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, fluid level checks, fluid/filter changes, and component lubrication.
• Conduct mechanical repairs under moderate supervision, such as brake repairs, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, and other repairs.
• Maintain records of all maintenance work, including parts and supplies used; ensure work orders are completed accurately.
• Assist with preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals.
• Remove and replace engine, transmission, and differential assemblies with Maintenance Technician III supervision.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
• Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken.
• Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required.
• Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary.
• Adhere to FirstGroup standards, policies, and procedures.
• Safely move vehicles between job and work area.
• Repair and maintain all shop equipment.
• Clean vehicles as requested or required.
• Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.
• Possess and maintain an adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred).
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire).
• State inspection license (if required).
• ASE Certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to obtain 3 ASE certifications within 12 months of hire).
• Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
• Adherence to state DOT standards for motor vehicle inspections and safety.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Intermediate problem-solving ability and computer skills.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
• English proficiency (required for training, safety communications, policies, and documentation).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Maintenance shop environment with exposure to dust, dirt, and grease.
• Ability to work under all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a crouched position or on back, lying on a mechanic’s creeper beneath vehicles.

Pay

$28.45/hour (based on union CBA).
