Technician I - Fiber

About the role

The Technician I - Fiber is responsible for all aspects of fiber installation, termination, testing, and splicing.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and splice fiber optic cabling.
• Install work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting faceplates, and surface mount boxes while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards.
• Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
• Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
• Perform testing, including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, use of volt-ohmmeter, troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs.
• Install LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
• Terminate simplex & duplex jumper cords.
• Terminate and break out outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g., Corning/Commscope, 3DNX).
• Terminate indoor tight-buffered multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
• Install fan-out kits, including buffer tubes.
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
• Complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, job blogs, and tool transfers.
• Test using an OTDR and Fluke DTX 180.
• Troubleshoot using an OTDR to identify and correct problems end-to-end and network-wide.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable, including building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried.
• Act as the company liaison for interface with customer representatives.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proficient with required tools for fiber installation and termination.
• Proficient in terminating all connector types and methods for single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
• Experience in testing and troubleshooting multi-mode and single-mode fiber systems (OTDR & PMLS).
• Ability to meet IES driving standards policy.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Pay

Minimum USD $23.50/Hr. Maximum USD $30.50/Hr.
