Fiber Technician I

Responsibilities

• Understand the process of installing and networking OSP fiber networks.
• Read prints to understand the installation process.
• Read and understand splice allocations and recognize their purpose.
• Use OTDR and test and prepare test reports.
• Test and troubleshoot equipment before installation.
• Comply with all OSHA safety regulations.
• Set up safety perimeters and signage.
• Maintain and submit all paperwork necessary for jobs completed.
• Maintain a clean work environment including trucks/trailers.
• Drive and maintain work truck including fluid levels, tire pressure, and report any problems to a supervisor.
• Maintain job-specific inventory and equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years previous experience.
• May be required to work some nights, weekends, or be on call.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at high elevations (manholes, hydraulic lift bucket, poles, ladders etc.).
• Knowledge of utility pole hardware & lineman tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills and maintain a professional attitude.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver license – CDL preferred.
• Clean driving record.
• Legal to work in the US.
• Pass a background check and drug screen.
• Own transportation.
• Able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work standing for full shift.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at high elevations (manholes, hydraulic lift bucket, poles, ladders etc.).
• Lift up to 75 lbs.
