Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration

Install and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial settings, including ductwork, control panels, building pneumatics, low-ambient systems, and direct digital controls.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and calibrate HVAC and refrigeration systems to meet operational specifications and building codes.
• Interpret layout plans and schematics to ensure accurate system setup and compliance.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
• Implement preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
• Maintain and repair rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units.
• Perform routine checks on HVAC systems and Energy Management Systems, identifying issues and coordinating repairs.
• Operate heavy machinery in compliance with OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols.
• Conduct inspections and repairs in compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R regulations, including cold chain and indoor air quality requirements.
• Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants and ensure proper documentation of refrigerant usage.
• Lead field teams and mentor less-experienced Technicians and Apprentices on technical procedures and safety practices.
• Communicate effectively with customers to explain technical issues and service outcomes.
• Manage escalated service issues and coordinate with external service providers as needed.
• Drive a company vehicle to complete service calls and manage operational needs within an assigned region.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support business-critical needs outside of standard business hours.
• Coordinate service calls and manage workload using digital tools and scheduling systems.
• Track refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure resource availability.
• Submit warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders to support financial sustainability.
• Maintain company vehicles, including coordinating and transporting vehicles for required maintenance.
• Safely operate motor vehicles, ensuring all required documents, fuel, water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights are checked.
• Submit maintenance invoices for payment and verify vehicle insurance coverage and validity.
• Wear company uniform and badge in accordance with company policies.
• Collaborate with management, coworkers, and customers to meet business needs and priorities.
• Develop, communicate, and implement processes and practices to improve business operations.
• Demonstrate and promote compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.

Requirements

• Option 1: Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
• Option 2: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
• Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
• HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman license where required.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
• Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, or OUI within the last five (5) years.
• No more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
• No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
• No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program.
• Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Mechanical license in city and/or state where job is located.
• Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Pay

The hourly wage range for this position is $29.00 - $58.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances, such as schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed.
