Amentum is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join a dynamic team of IT professionals delivering integrated voice, video, and data services throughout the Information Technology lifecycle.

About the role

You will create and maintain clear, accurate documentation in a classified environment, collaborating with engineers and subject-matter experts to translate complex technical and policy concepts into user guides, operational manuals, training materials, and compliance documents.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain user guides, operational manuals, reports, presentations, and training materials that explain complex system processes.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, maintenance files, and procedures to combine large amounts of technical data into clear instructions.
  • Guide documents from draft to final version, ensuring accuracy, consistency, proper formatting, and correct government security markings.
  • Work closely with engineers and subject-matter experts to capture system features, workflows, and requirements.
  • Edit drafts for grammar, clarity, and formatting before submitting them for final approval.
  • Review and refine step-by-step guides for standard IT workflows to ensure they are easy to follow.
  • Assist team members in writing and organizing system accreditation and compliance documents.
  • Manage the team’s internal document repository and suggest improvements for information storage and retrieval.
  • Maintain the project’s tracking spreadsheet to provide real-time status of contract deliverables.

Requirements

  • Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI, or Top-Secret clearance with the ability to acquire SCI.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant technical-writing experience.
  • Proven experience working within classified environments and applying Derivative Classification principles.
  • Hands-on experience with portion markings, banner lines, and classification authority blocks in accordance with Security Classification Guides (SCGs).
  • Ability to translate complex concepts across IT systems, governance, and policy.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project, Visio).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field.

Schedule

  • 5 days per week (Monday – Friday), 8 hours per day, 40 hours weekly.
  • Overtime may be required during critical peaks or for last-minute requests.

Pay

Compensation range: $85,000 – $105,000 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
