Technical Writer - Level 4

This position is located in Huntsville, AL. Active DOD Secret clearance required for start. Travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Use data gathering technology and software to transform data into charts, reports, and information that drives critical decision-making, information sharing, and production improvements.
• Frequent collaboration with internal company personnel and representation on specific projects with tracking metrics.
• Develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity with minimal supervision.
• Edit documents to ensure compliance with style, design, layout, specification, grammar, and spelling requirements.
• Attend technical meetings to capture discussion in minutes or other documentation.
• Support Program Operations tasking as assigned.
• Create, edit, and revise moderately complex technical documents such as operating manuals, user guides, checklists, training materials, installation guides, and functional specifications.
• Proofread and ensure compliance with program-specific or DoD documentation standards and formatting requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 8 years of applicable experience; a Master’s degree with 3 years of applicable experience or 12 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Active DOD Security Clearance.
• MIL STD 40051 experience.
• Experience with XML, Arbortext, and/or SGML.
• Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.
• Experience understanding complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
• Experience facilitating/supporting review boards.
• Effective time management skills and ability to multi-task.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to stand up a Release Library and verify that changes identified during board reviews are incorporated into documents and the Release Library.
• Understanding of and ability to apply military technical order principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
• Existing knowledge of military aircraft technical order editing/writing processes.
• Familiarity with technical manuals and standards specific to Integrated Product Support (IPS) or other logistics documentation (e.g., Maintenance Work Instructions, Technical Orders).
• Experience with S1000D or other Structured Document specifications.
• Capable of producing clear, concise, and well-organized documentation while adhering to approved style guides and quality control processes.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $102,000.00 - $153,000.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
