JDR’s Service Group in Houston is seeking a Technical Training Specialist to coordinate and assist in the training of offshore personnel. Some international and offshore travel may be required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the competence training framework, policies, and procedures to support high-performing service teams, including technical and behavioral competencies, identifying skill gaps, and ensuring relevance.
- Interface regularly with technical authorities, such as the Engineering team, to develop in-house training.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure training bookings and orders with external training companies align with the service competence framework.
- Coordinate and execute in-house training, ensuring materials, tooling, equipment, and resources are available as needed.
- Monitor, review, and manage the effectiveness of the service training and competence framework using established KPIs.
- Work with Operations Manager, Sales, and HR to shape the service training and competence strategy.
- Optimize processes for efficiency, balancing time, workforce needs, technology, and methods to achieve error-free, safe, and cost-effective outcomes.
- Analyze the effectiveness of learning and development interventions for benefit realization.
- Support the design of behavioral competency, technical, and other frameworks, and assist in designing internally run workshops.
- Liaise with the Training Coordinator in the UK to maintain accurate learning and development databases and provide reports (e.g., by training or qualification type) to analyze JDR’s bench strength.
- Evaluate and train Technicians in shop and offshore environments to develop required competencies.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and actively promote JDR products and services to customers.
- Perform technical tasks, including:
- Mechanical assembly of termination parts with an understanding of limits and fits.
- Application of thread lock, sealant, or anti-galling compounds as necessary.
- Termination of electrical connectors, cable joints, and electrical junction boxes.
- Proof testing of electrical umbilicals and associated terminations.
- Swaging of hydraulic and pneumatic hoses, integration into stab plates, winches, etc., and proof testing/flushing as required.
- Interpretation of JDR and customer-supplied drawings.
Requirements
- Technical qualification or time-served experience in a Mechanical and/or Electrical field.
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage personal workload and the time of others.
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to understand written information, convey ideas accurately in writing, and articulate information verbally.
- Proactive problem-solving approach, with the ability to identify operational issues, assess information, and implement effective solutions.
- Valid driving license.
- Understanding of JDR’s services and products, particularly IWOCS (preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge of cables and umbilical equipment (preferred but not essential).
