Technical Support Specialist Nuclear Materials Level III
About the role
This position directly supports key and operational support activities assigned by the DOE-SR Mission Program Management Team at the US Department of Energy – Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. The duty location is on-site at the Savannah River Site, and candidates should be within commuting distance. Activities focus on technical and strategic program management support, expertise in federal regulations, and DOE requirements specific to nuclear materials processing and disposal of radioactive wastes.
You will provide expert advice to senior colleagues and agency officials responsible for broad program operations, offering significant and innovative recommendations for advancing mission programs and methods related to Nuclear Materials Mission Programs and supporting operational facilities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) and provide programmatic input for complex DOE program objectives.
- Assess the effectiveness of new concepts and ideas, and evaluate scientific and technological trends for application to DOE projects/programs.
- Develop operating plans, schedules, and budgets for each assigned project or program.
- Evaluate overall progress in programs/projects and recommend resolutions for highly technical scientific challenges to NM federal staff.
- Support and coordinate the execution of programs/projects through interaction with appropriate DOE organizations and supporting contractors.
- Assess contractor performance and ensure work plans adhere to policy, budget, and scheduling guidance provided by DOE management.
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation of scientific and technical reports and other documentation required to support DOE positions related to assigned projects and programs.
- Develop technical briefs and recommendations for NM management to analyze and communicate the status of program areas for varied audiences.
- Obtain and maintain DOE Radiological Worker Level II qualification.
- Apply DOE 413.3B Goal and Objectives and Earned Value Management methodology.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline related to nuclear materials storage and handling. Advanced engineering/technical degree preferred.
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in a DOE Environmental Management Program organization with large-scale project/program management and oversight experience.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and the ability to manage multiple technical tasks/projects.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Earned Value Management methodology and principles.
- Cost Estimating Professional Certification.
- Project Management Professional Certification (preferred).
- Risk Management Professional Certification.
- Able to obtain DOE Security Clearance as required.
