Technical Support Specialist 2
About the role
Convergint is seeking a full-time Technical Support Specialist to join our dynamic team. The role involves installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and related customer training on assigned systems. Key responsibilities include delivering projects effectively and within budgeted cost and time schedules, acting as a key interface for technical support with customers, and maximizing customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of non-routine security systems and equipment.
- Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Executes all work in accordance with provincial, local regulations, general best practices, and company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
- Writes a variety of non-routine programs for systems.
- Consults with supervisor to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
- Advises supervisor regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and standards, as well as suggestions for product improvements.
- Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties, and assists in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
- Works closely with the Project Manager and/or supervisor and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; makes recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
- Acts as a mentor to less experienced staff, supervising workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
- Communicates with and works with other team members to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center and company.
- Keeps up to date and informed on all company policies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Requirements
- Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.
- Minimum Experience: 2+ years of previous, related field experience.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in one or more of the following industries: electronic security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
- Brands: Genetec, DMP, and March Video.

- Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Advanced computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and proficiency in other relevant applications.
- Good skills with spreadsheets and data management.
- Good networking skills.
- Working knowledge of physical security and door hardware.
- Understanding of relay and relay logic.
