What You Will Do

  • Performs patient tests, manually and with automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents, and/or test methodologies.
  • Reviews patient test results for accuracy and notifies appropriate clinical personnel or all critical results.
  • Documents this notification per established protocols.
  • Recognizes abnormal or unusual test results and makes appropriate decisions before releasing results.
  • Performs quality control per established departmental protocols. Records QC appropriately and takes corrective action when QC is not within established guidelines. Documents corrective action taken.
  • Performs instrument checks, maintenance and troubleshooting per department protocols.
  • Maintains competencies in accordance with policy and procedures of the hospital and laboratory department.
  • In conjunction with the lead, supervisor, manager, or director, establishes a QC program in specialty, appropriate for the testing performed and delineates the parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance.
  • Safeguards quality control testing is performed per schedule, reviews result and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  • Communicates significant/ unresolved issues to supervisor, manager, or director for resolution.
  • Prepares, maintains, and reviews documentation on QC materials and reagents.
  • May oversee proficiency testing in area of specialty.
  • May assist supervisor, manager, or director in developing and implementing protocols for validation of new procedures/methods and equipment.
  • Actively promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members.
  • Instructs and encourages coworkers to treat patients and customers (nurses, physicians, visitors, vendors etc.) courteously.
  • Participates in continuing education programs, in-services, lab meetings and various committees.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by using required PPE and protective devices.
  • Handles biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocols.
  • Maintains inventory and supplies within respective departments.
  • Performs computer functions efficiently, manages workload and established turnaround times.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • May assist in competency assessment of moderate and high complexity testing.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of all laboratory departments. May cross-train into other areas of the lab as needed.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.
  • What You Will Need

    • Average salary range: $35.16 - $54.50 per hour.
    • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in medical laboratory technology preferred.
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred.
    • A minimum of five years of clinical lab experience in chemistry and hematology departments.

    About the Role

    Technical Specialist - MLS at Northwest Community Hospital is a full-time position with rotating weekends and holidays. This role requires a strong background in clinical laboratory technology and experience in performing patient tests, maintaining quality control, and promoting patient satisfaction.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of clinical lab experience in chemistry and hematology departments, along with an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification is preferred.

    Skills

    Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Proficiency in computer functions and the ability to manage workload and established turnaround times are also important.

    Schedule

    Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays.

    $35.16 - $54.50 per hour.
